Exercise is another key component to a healthy lifestyle, but many people get overwhelmed by the choices out there, or don’t think they have the time.  I am here to tell you that “exercise” doesn’t have to mean having a gym membership or training for an Ironman.  In fact, I prefer to think of exercise as MOVEMENT because of the negative association so many people have with the word exercise.  The best exercise is the one you will do.  If that means for you taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or taking your dogs or kids on a walk, then DO IT!!!

I have had three orthopedic surgeries over the years so I have limitations in what I can do with my body, but what I have discovered over the years since my first surgery is that the more I move my body, however little, the better I feel.  I encourage you to experiment with various activities until you find one that brings you JOY.  If you hate the gym, find an activity you enjoy that you will actually do to get your body moving.  If you enjoy dancing, perhaps there is a hip-hop or ballroom dancing class in your area.  If you enjoy the water, perhaps there is a stand up paddle-board class in your area.  

The bottom line is that exercise for YOU does not have to meet anyone else’s definition of it.  Find something that brings you joy and that you will actually do.  MOVING YOUR BODY consistently on a weekly basis is more important than trying to meet the normal weekly recommendation you hear from your doctor.

Nutrition is the foundation of a healthy lifestyle, but there is so much information out there and so many trendy diets around, how do you begin to know what is the best one for you?  The first step is to realize that food is fuel for your body, pure and simple.  Before you eat something, take a moment to think, if my body was my car, and this food was the gas, would my car run efficiently, or at all, after I fed it?

That is a tough thing for so many people to do these days because they simply do not have the knowledge about food and nutrition they need to make an informed decision.  I am here to help!  I will be writing blog posts and creating video blogs in the near future to help you understand some of the most popular diets out there and which one might be the best for you.
